New hires, promotions and relocations across the industry

Cherryroad Media has announced the promotion of industry veteran Lee Bachlet to the role of chief operating officer. Cherryroad has more than 70 newspapers in 15 states. Bachlet joined Cherryroad at the beginning of 2022, tasked with helping to lead the growth charge. He has been in the newspaper industry for most of his life, and has worked for newspapers across the country, including in Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, Texas, Nevada, Kansas and Louisiana.

The Jackson (Wyoming) Hole News&guide has a new publisher. Adam Meyer, a minority owner of the paper’s parent company, Teton Media Works, has been promoted from the associate publisher role he held for seven years.

Kevin Olson, still president, CEO and majority owner of Teton Media Works, is stepping aside to hand the newspaper’s day-to-day operations to Meyer.

John D’orlando has been named chief operating officer of Wick Communications. D’orlando spent more than five years as president and publisher of the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson and has served as vice president/advertising director of the Orlando Sentinel Media Group in Orlando, Florida.

Chip Minemyer, editor and general manager of The Tribune-democrat in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and general manager of The Times-news of Cumberland, Maryland, has been named the publisher in both markets, parent company CNHI announced. Minemyer was named editor of The Tribune-democrat in 2004 and has been general manager in Johnstown and Cumberland since 2021. He also serves as publisher for Johnstown and Allegany magazines. He succeeds Robert Forcey as publisher in Cumberland and Johnstown.

Chad Wingo has been named publisher of The Union (Grass Valley, California). He started with The Union in July 2013, where he has worked in advertising sales, as business development manager and, most recently, director of business development and marketing. Wingo also is co-owner of Grass Valley Brewing Company.

The Delmarva Group of Independent Newsmedia Inc. USA welcomes Konrad Laprade to the role of group publisher. He takes on the position, which includes oversight of the Delaware State News and its website Baytobaynews.com, following the retirement of his father, Darel La Prade. Darel has been with Independent Newsmedia for more than 25 years, the last five as group publisher. Konrad has been vice president of sales for Independent Newsmedia since 2019.

Schurz Communications, Inc. has announced the promotion of Melissa Lock to the position of chief of culture and talent development. In this role, Lock will be responsible for ensuring employees are aligned with the company’s purpose, vision and values. She has been with Schurz for 26 years.

Hagadone Corporation Chairman and CEO Brad Hagadone and Media Division President Clint Schroeder have named Montana regional advertising director Anton Kaufer as the newspaper group’s next regional publisher. Kaufer joined the Daily Inter Lake and Hagadone Media Montana in January 2017 as regional advertising director. Before moving to Montana, he was advertising director for the Shreveport Times in Shreveport, Louisiana. Kaufer succeeds Rick Weaver, who retired.

Grant Gibbons is the new publisher of The Journal, in New Ulm, Minnesota, and The Independent of Marshall. He succeeds Greg Orear, publisher

since 2016. Orear has taken a publishing position with a newspaper group in Missouri. Gibbons relocated to New Ulm from Fort Dodge,

Iowa, where he worked as regional circulation manager for the Fort Dodge Messenger since 2000.

Joel Simon has joined the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism as the founding director of the Journalism Protection Initiative, which will conduct and host research into the growing threats to journalism and journalists in the U.S. and around the world. Monica Richardson, executive editor of the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald, has been named vice president of news for large markets for parent company Mcclatchy. She will oversee all news operations for Mcclatchy’s six largest newsrooms: in Florida, Missouri, California, North Carolina and

Texas. The senior editors in each of the six large-market newsrooms will report to her.

APG publications across Montana. Distelhorst also took over as publisher for four APG West publications in Washington, prompting his relocation to Mount Vernon, Washington, where he now lives.
