WV News has announced it is taking ownership of the Jackson Star and Jackson Herald, effective May 1.

The Jackson Newspapers were part of Gannett’s USA TODAY Network. In addition, WV News is also purchasing the Mineral Daily News Tribune in Keyser.

O’rourke Media Group has acquired the Sussex Printing Corporation in Seaford, Delaware. The transaction includes The Guide and related assets. “I’m excited to welcome The Guide and all of their employees into our company,” said Jim O’rourke, O’rourke Media Group CEO. “As I studied this Delmarva market and got to know Amy and Tim (Higgins), the current owner, I just got more and more excited about this company.”

A 32-year rivalry between two Storm Lake newspapers has ended after the Storm Lake Times Company recently purchased the Pilot-tribune from Hallmark II Publishing of Charles City. The terms of the sale were not disclosed. But it will mean the Times and Pilot-tribune will be merged into a single, twice-a-week publication called The Storm Lake Times Pilot.

Central Connecticut Communications has sold The Bristol Press/the New

Britain Herald and the Chronicle in Willimantic to Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers, also known as RISN Operations. Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers previously acquired the weekly Block Island Times from Central Connecticut Communications in February.

Rust Communications has sold the Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Cherokee Chronicle Times, Spencer Daily Reporter and several other northwest Iowa publications to Gene Hall and his son Chris, according to Randy Cope of Cribb, Cope & Potts, who represented the Rust family in the sale. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Cox Media Group and the general entertainment cable network INSP, LLC announced that affiliates of each company have entered into a definitive agreement involving the sale of CMG television stations in 12 markets. The transaction furthers the strategic evolution of CMG’S broadcast station portfolio and marks INSP’S expansion into broadcast television. Upon the close of the transaction, Imagicomm Communications, an affiliate of INSP, will acquire the following CMG stations: Alexandria, LA – KLAX, Binghamton, NY –

Axios has acquired The SF Minute, which will continue to exist for a bit longer. But in the next couple of months, you can expect to see it become Axios San Francisco.

Media measurement firm Nielsen Holdings has agreed to a $16 billion private equity takeover. The buyout group is led by Evergreen Coast Capital, an affiliate of activist investor Elliott Investment Management, and Brookfield Business Partners.

Postmedia Network Canada Corp. announced the closing of the previously announced agreement to purchase all of the issued and outstanding shares of Brunswick News Inc. (BNI). The acquisition includes BNI’S daily and weekly newspapers, digital properties and parcel delivery business from J. D. Irving, Limited.

The U.K.’S second biggest regional publisher Newsquest has bought Archant, the fourth largest in the market. Archant was previously acquired by private equity firm Rcapital in September 2020.
