Acquisitions

After 140 years of local ownership by the Gaines family of Bowling Green, the Bowling Green (Kentucky) Daily News has been sold to Carpenter Newsmedia LLC, an affiliate of Boone Newspapers Inc., a family-owned organization based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The transaction included the

Daily News, along with four other publications — the Country Peddler weekly shopper and three magazines: Bowling Green Home and Lifestyles, South Central Kentucky Homes and Auction Guide.

Mcelvy Partners LLC has sold its media and marketing company with operations in Houston, Dallas and Charlotte to Street Media.

The company’s divisions include community newspapers, shoppers, digital services, commercial printing and events. The acquired operations include The Greensheet, a free shopper distributed across Houston and Dallas; two respected community newspapers outside of Houston, The Leader and the

Fort Bend Star; and The Weekly, a group of community weeklies serving upscale neighborhoods south of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Texas group also publishes the monthly Fort Bend Business Journal magazine. In addition, the company operates Core Digital Brands, a digital service division; Texas Printers, a commercial printing division; and Mcelvy Partner Events, which produces annual events that include Senior Expos, Women at Work Luncheons, Best Of Award Ceremonies, Top 50 Women Galas and Small Business Expos.

J. Louis Mullen has acquired The Lennox Independent and Tea Weekly in southeastern South Dakota from

Independent Publishing, LLC. The group also publishes community guides for Tea, Lennox and nearby Worthing, and provides printing and design services for local businesses. The two weekly newspapers both circulate in Lincoln County, one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. Mullen, part of a second-generation newspaper family, now owns more than 30 newspapers in seven states, stretching from the upper Midwest to the West Coast.

The Hoffmann Family of Companies has acquired Florida Media

Group, LLC, the publishers of nine newspapers with a circulation of more than 220,000 weekly readers: The Ave Maria Sun, Bonita Springs Florida Weekly, Babcock Ranch Telegraph, Charlotte Florida Weekly, Fort Myers Florida Weekly, Key West Florida Weekly, Naples Florida Weekly, Palm Beach Florida Weekly and Wellen Park Journal. The acquisition of Florida Media Group forms the Hoffmann Media Group, led by CEO Pason Gaddis, a 28-year veteran in legacy and digital media and former business executive for Gannett.

WV News has acquired the Pomeroy Daily Sentinel and Gallipolis Daily Tribune in Ohio and the Point Pleasant Register in West Virginia from AIM Media Midwest.

Pride Media, home to Out Magazine, The Advocate and Pride.com, has been acquired by Equal Entertainment and is rebranding as Equal Pride. The acquisition covers all existing assets, including the digital arms of Out and The Advocate, Out Traveler Magazine and Plus Magazine, and returns the country’s largest Lgbtqowned media, digital, TV and entertainment company to LGBTQ+ majority ownership.
