Long-time Tullahoma (Tennessee) News publisher, former owner of The Moore County News, career journalist and accomplished race car driver Terry G. Craig passed away at the age of 83. He served as assistant publisher and eventually, publisher for 24 years of the Tullahoma News and was a corporate vice president for six weekly newspapers in the area for Lakeway Publishers, Inc. of Morristown.

On May 12, Morley Piper passed away at 97 years young. He devoted more than 60 years of his life to the newspaper industry, including 12 years at The Boston Globe, 45 years as the executive director of the New England Newspaper Association, and 22 years serving as clerk of the Newspaper Association Managers. He made significant contributions to the industry, providing wise counsel and inspiration to several generations of newspaper staff and executives in New England, and across the country.

David Meadows, general manager of the Jefferson City News Tribune in Missouri died May 11 at the age of 58. Meadows had been general manager at the News Tribune, the Fulton Sun, California Democrat, HER Magazine and the Central Missouri Newspapers’ commercial printing facility for about 2½ years, having been selected for the job in December 2019, about two months before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. He is survived by his wife, Dianna, and their two sons, Connor and Garrett.

Ron Martin, a former longtime editor of the Atlanta Journal and Atlanta Constitution who oversaw the merger of those newspapers after he edited USA Today, died May 14.

Ken Bode, political journalist and former Medill dean, died June 2 at the age of 83. During Bode’s career in journalism, he reported on the presidential campaign trail for NBC, made prizewinning documentaries for CNN and moderated “Washington Week” for PBS.

Journalist Subhash Kumar Mahto was shot dead near his home in Sakho village in the Begusarai district of Bihar (India) on the evening of May 20, allegedly for his reporting on local gangs in the area. The International Federation of Journalists strongly condemned the murder and has urged the Indian authorities to expedite investigation on the case and bring the perpetrators to swift justice.

Roger Angell, the elegant and thoughtful baseball writer who was widely considered among the best America has produced, died May 20 at his home in Manhattan. He was 101. The cause was congestive heart failure, his wife, Margaret Moorman, said.

Richard Wald, a longtime journalist who helped build ABC News into a powerhouse following a career in newspapers, has died. He was 92. Wald suffered a stroke and never regained consciousness before dying May 13 at a hospital in New Rochelle, New York.
